  June 12th , 2011 – Start of Season News Round-up

The 2011 outdoor season began with some uncertainty as to what the future will hold for the club, with regard to ownership bids to the council. Indeed, many bowling clubs across the country are in jeopardy due to local government cutbacks, with leisure being considered low priority. Nevertheless, the main focus was on the matches ahead and we kicked off the season with a series of closely fought W.B.A. games. A home victory against Llanhilleth B.C. and a narrow loss of just 1 point away at Ebbw Vale Welfare B.C. gave us a chance to qualify for the next round. All hopes rested on a win at Cwmbran Park. All either team needed was a win by any margin to go through and this made for an exciting game. The game finished in dramatic fashion as it all came down to the final end on the final rink. Unfortunately, Jason Power's rink lost the final end to Howard Rees' rink and so we wish Cwmbran Park all the best in their next game. With our hopes in the W.B.A. competition dashed, we shifted our focus to the M.B.A. league and our challenge of rising to the standard of the second division. The first match ended on a positive note, with a 10-4 victory at home vs. Rhymney Gwent B.C. However, the following week we crashed to a 14-0 defeat away at Llanhilleth, who took revenge for us beating them on our green in the W.B.A. competition. This weekend, we managed to get back on track with a 12-2 win at home vs. Newbridge B.C.

  June 12th , 2011 – Recent Developments

It was hoped that this season, club veteran, John Franklin would once again take an active part in the running of the club, however he is still too ill and everyone at the club wishes him well. On a lighter note, we would like to welcome to the club two returning members, Mark 'Sparky' Stevens & Mark Fish and new bowler, Howard Powell.
